Internship Opportunity: Niagara Foundation

Application deadline: May 20, 2015

Position: 3 Part-time, Unpaid

Description: Niagara Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in Chicago in 2004 currently with branches in Michigan, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. The foundation is committed to building global bridges locally by convening dialogue that fosters understanding, respect, and acceptance. Niagara Foundation envisions a community in which people from all walks of life interact with each other and cooperate to serve their communities, thereby strengthening civil society and promoting the development of shared human values.

Internship opportunities are available every quarter/semester for students who wish to participate in a learning environment where he or she will gain work experience for the future. The web design intern will work with the Director of Communications and webmaster to work on the Niagara website using HTML and PHP.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include: helping webmaster write PHP and HTML codes. This is an excellent opportunity for computer science students to build a stronger web presence and practice coding. Additionally, interns will be encouraged to participate in brainstorming and developing new programs and initiatives.

Requirements:

• Must be an undergraduate/graduate student or recent graduate

• Must be able to commit at least 12 hours a week for 12 weeks in the office

• Ability to respectfully communicate and work with diverse community groups varying in age, religion, denomination, and ethnicity

• Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

• Ability to process and protect confidential information

• Ability to work in a team-driven environment.

• Have excellent verbal, interpersonal skills

• Must have PHP and HTML experience

Desired Skills/Preferences:

• Experience working with multiple media, i.e. video editing, photography, graphic design

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

• Ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment

Internship Opportunity: Closet Angels

Description:

Closet Angels takes donated designer goods and donates all proceeds made from the sale of items to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to support their efforts in providing the highest level of care to those in need. Our mission is to help all children lead happy, healthy lives by giving in a way that is convenient. We strive to make it easy for individuals as well as brands to donate items that may no longer hold any value to them, to our foundation that appreciates the value of designer goods, and turn those items into dollars for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

We are looking for a Graphic Design Intern to work on our website, marketing materials, branding and more.

Responsibilities:

-Website maintenance

-Helping building our e-commerce platform

-Marketing material design (postcards, stickers, 1-pagers)

-Social Media templates and designs

-eBay store design

Requirements:

-Proven experience in graphic design (personal, professional and/or course work)

-Knowledge of HTML and website management/design

-Hardworking and motivated

-Ability to work efficiently and complete assignments to meet daily/weekly goals

-Experience in the fashion/retail/apparel world is strongly preferred but not required

Internship Opportunity: What's The Word TV LLC

Position:  Part-time, Unpaid (College Credit Required) 

Description: Whats The Word TV LLC is an internet based television network. Our interest is to combine various cultural entertainments and display it to the general public. We offer young innovative minds an opportunity to display their skills and visions.

We are looking for talented individuals who are looking to build a career in media and television. This internship is unpaid but we offer college credit hours to students. In order to receive credit students all the proper paper work must be approve prior to the starting date. We are currently offering Fall/Spring semester Internships.

Responsibilities:

- Assists in the design and development of layouts for marketing materials, using appealing graphics that are well organized

- Responsible to incorporate current design trends into each unique layout to produce an up-to-date style for custom ads

- Ability to exercise good judgment when interpreting instructions and to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions

- Utilize strong written skills and bring effective visual ideas from concept through to completion

Requirements:

- Working towards a BA or certificate from a Fine Arts program/Graphic Design school

- Experience with Adobe InDesign, and proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator

- Knowledge of Mac OS and software upgrades and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs

- Must be a team player and flourish in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment

- Open to constructive criticism and customer feedback
